Recently, some campuses have seen a reversal of the trend towards decentralized campus computing and a return to a demand for centralized computer services. Some of the drivers of this change are the size of the systems needed for some projects, the need for technical expertise unavailable in the departments, very large data storage requirements, grant compliance, and security issues. The panelists will discuss how they are addressing these issues, what they would like to see in terms of coordinated efforts, and what support they would like to see from government and other research funders.
