CNI Names Joan K. Lippincott
Lippincott has served as Assistant Executive Director of CNI since 1990. In addition, she was Interim Executive Director of the Coalition from November 1996 till July 1997, following the untimely death of Founding Executive Director Paul Evan Peters. During her time at the Coalition, Lippincott has provided leadership for CNI's New Learning Communities program, the Working Together collaborative workshops, the assesment program, and CNI's work on electronic federal information, among other initiatives. Prior to joining CNI in 1990, she held positions at the American Council on Education, the National Center for Postsecondary Governance and Finance, Cornell University's Mann Library, George Washington University, Georgetown University, and the State University of New York at Brockport. She received an A.B. from Vassar College, an M.L.S. from SUNY Geneseo, and has completed graduate coursework at George Washington University and Cornell University. She is currently completing her doctoral studies in higher education at the University of Maryland at College Park. She has written on such topics as collaboration between librarians and information technologists, networked information, and end-user searching. Duane Webster, the Executive Director of the Association of Research Libraries, one of CNI's three sponsor organizations, commented "Joan contributed exceptional leadership during a difficult period for CNI. She provided stablility and inspiration at a time when the community needed it most. Her talent and committment provide a sound base for the continuing development of the Coalition.". Richard West, Senior Vice Chancellor of the California State University system and chair of CNI's Steering Committee, further commented "Joan Lippincott has provided the continuity this last year to allow CNI's program to not only continue, but prosper. Her new title as Associate Executive Director is recognition of her many past accomplishments and sets the stage for continued progress for the CNI program now that the CNI leadership team is once again intact with Clifford Lynch's appointment as Executive Director."
CNI is an organization to advance the transformative promise of networked information technology for the advancement of scholarly communication and the enrichment of intellectual productivity. The Coalition was formed in 1990 by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL), CAUSE, and Educom.
