Dear Public Brethren,

While trying to understand Vigdor's post I tripped on the concept of
_DEMOCRATIC SUSTAINABILITY_.

Here it is in context,
as posted here by Vigdor Schreibman <fins98@worldnet.att.net>:
>
> The issue can best be confronted by asking the question as to
> what kind of future we desire, one guided by capitalist marketability,
> driven by profit maximization, or democratic sustainability, based on
> the advance of ecological integrity, social equity, and economic
> prosperity as mutually reinforcing goals?

Pointers to _DEMOCRATIC SUSTAINABILITY_ welcomed.

Personally, I have a bit of a problem with the idea (not trumpeted here
BTW) that says, 'we've lasted for this long -- and that is reason enough
to not make for change.' Often, IMHO, people what to just "survive." I'd
rather thrive -- not survive. To sustain means to keep in existence,
prolong.

Is sustainability in this conversation's context more to the global, keep
the Earth blue/green and friendly for life as we know it? _DEMOCRATIC
SUSTAINABILITY_ can't be talking about killing ourselves with
toxins/mass-destruction are we? Or, is this more about sustaining
democratic ways? Confusion lurks with me.

A disaster for the human race... Humm, another pondering.

The fight of the democratic visionaries is as often on the side of
sustaining -- and often on the side of change. True?

In general I don't think it is easy to sustain a democratic organization.
Sustaining and democratic are not linked, I'd say. Right?

Help me weed this issue into a sensible context. Thanks.
