On Tuesday, July 28, at 2:00 p.m., Commerce Secretary William Daley and
Commerce Assistant Secretary Larry Irving will release a new report on
the "digital divide." Please see the following media advisory for
further details. Copies of the report will be available at the press
conference, which is open to members of the public.

SECRETARY DALEY TO RELEASE NTIA REPORT *FALLING THROUGH THE NET II: NEW
DATA ON THE DIGITAL DIVIDE*
WHAT:
The U.S. Department of Commerce*s National Telecommunications and
Information Administration will release the *Falling Through the Net
II* report containing the most recent and comprehensive Census data
available on telephone penetration and computer and modem ownership and
use. NTIA previously published a survey of these penetration rates in a
July 1995 report entitled, *Falling Through the Net* in which it was
found that the information *have nots* are disproportionately found in
this country*s rural areas and inner cities.

secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and
administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information
Administration.
