Mission Statement
The Research Libraries Group, Inc., is a partnership of not-for- profit research institutions working in concert to advance education and scholarship, for the benefit of the research community at large as well as the constituencies of member institutions. The mission of RLG is to identify and solve such problems of information creation, collection, and access as its members judge are amenable to cooperative solutions and that are beyond their individual capacities. The goal is to make the universe of recorded knowledge widely available in a timely and cost-effective manner. This mission will be accomplished through shared responsibility and interdependence among the participating institutions.In pursuit of its mission, the corporation:
- Exercises leadership in the national and international research information community.
- Initiates and operates cooperative programs to maintain and enhance access to information resources and recorded knowledge in all media.
- Identifies, develops, and adapts technology to improve information management and sharing.
- Defines standards for information services and works with other organizations to establish compatibility among networking systems.
- Employs an operating staff whose responsibilities range from providing services to anticipating and planning for future directions in librarianship and information management.
