Mary Gardiner Jones asked about the usage statistics at Virtually Wired:
Mary,
Unfortunately, we don't/can't keep very complete statistics for 2
reasons. One is we don't want to badger people about what they're
doing (unlike a library where you can check what books have been
checked out) and we are an all volunteer outfit, so it is difficult
to ensure enough well trained human coverage to continually monitor.
However, in our corner of the world job searching/preparation is
by far the biggest reason for frequenting Virtually Wired. I've
heard from many sources that those interested primarily in health care
are seniors. We intend to do some pretty serious outreach to some
subsidized housing in the area but seniors are a tough bunch to get
in the door. We also intend to do more outreach to low
income/battered/welfare moms and I suspect they will be very
interested in health care. Both of these groups have very real
reasons for not venturing into a public access center to pass some
time. They require very structured and special programs that
accomodate their needs and assure them of a friendly and supportive
environment.
