The following is an announcement about NTIA's upcoming Internet
Telephony Seminar.  This will be the first of a series of policy forums
hosted by NTIA's Office of Policy Analysis & Development (OPAD).  You
are encouraged to register early, as seating is limited.

                                 NTIA ANNOUNCES

                New Frontiers on the Information Superhighway:

                            INTERNET TELEPHONY FORUM

                          Thursday, September 4, 1997
                              8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. 

                               National Press Club
                                   13th Floor
                               529 14th Street, NW
             (Enter on 14th Street between F St. and Pennsylvania)
                                 Washington, D.C.

Advanced technologies offer a myriad of new communication
opportunities. NTIA's first day-long forum will focus on Internet
Telephony, one of a number of new applications on the Information
Superhighway, and examine the corresponding policy implications.

Discussion topics for this forum will include:

   o  Internet Telephony at a Glance
   o  Policy Perspectives 
   o  Evolving Applications and Technology Demonstrations
   o  Future Directions 

The VON Coalition (www.von.org) will provide demonstrations of "Voice
On the Net" Internet telephony technology.

                             Open to public participation.
    Limited seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The forum will be broadcast live via the Internet.  Information about how
to access the broadcast will be available on NTIA's home page at

   http://www.ntia.doc.gov/

Further fora on the policy implications of other advanced technology
applications will be scheduled throughout the year.  Announcements will
be made on NTIA's homepage.
