Subject: We Must be Doing Something Right...

Yesterday (Friday, June 6) I received a call from a staffer at a large,
well-known public relations firm hired by a large, well-known
telecommunications entity. I won't be giving anything away by saying that
this entity has been or is currently involved in merger negotiations with
another very large well-known telecommunications entity.

The staffer told me that he had heard about the Alliance's state advocacy
drive, and wondered if we would not be willing to put our organization at
the disposal of their entity in their (very public-interest oriented) fight
to increase their access to markets controlled by other large, well-known
telecommunications entities. The subject of what the entity would provide
the Alliance in exchange for being their shill did not come up.

At the present moment, we have not consented to give a public-interest
veneer to the very private interest of this large telecommunications
entity (although I would certainly be interested in hearing from Alliance
members or others who think that such a tradeoff might be worthwhile --
don't all talk at once, now). Nonetheless, those folks who are
participating in our state advocacy campaign should feel a sense of
accomplishment for having this large entity (whose annual revenues
outweigh the Alliance's by a factor of say, 200,000 to one) ask us for
their support.

To those who are already a part of this, keep up the great work!!! We are
already showing results!

To those who are not a part of this, isn't there something you should be
doing? How about giving me a call? Our operators are waiting...
