Hi Folks,
This might be of interest to some of our fellow local Roundtable, and
Roundtable-NE members - just to let you know what we've been up to at
The Center for Civic Networking. This USDA-funded project helps rural
microenterprises market themselves across the Internet. We just did a
major update of the site - with some really nice specials for Mothers'
Day. So, here's an opportunity to buy your Mom a present in a socially
responsible way. The URL is http://civic.net/webmarket/ - and the more
detailed press release follows.
Regards,
Miles Fidelman

Dear Friend of the Public WebMarket,
Sometime in the past six months, you've visited or expressed
interest in the Public WebMarket. We thought you'd like to know
that we've gone through a major update cycle - and have a special
set of presents for Mother's Day.
This Mother's Day, while supporting healthy community economies,
you can get your mom a nice gift! The Public WebMarket
(http://civic.net/webmarket) now includes ten special gift
offerings for mom produced by entrepreneurs in low income
communities in Appalachian Ohio and the Big Island of Hawaii.
Choose from gourmet vinegars, boutique pasta, beautiful orchid
prints from Hawaii, handmade gardening tools, extra-special
pickled peppers, macadamia nuts, southwestern style salsas,
culinary herbs, or a gift bag which includes soothing herbal
teas, a teacup, an infuser, and relaxing bath salts. Or go all
out and order mom a stay at one of the Big Island's premier bed
and breakfasts, and dinner at the Bamboo Restaurant!
The purpose of this site is to enable low income communities to
bring much needed capital into our depressed regions. At the same
time, we offer useful, well-crafted specialty food and craft
items, as well as information about the unique qualities of the
places we live, including social, historical, cultural
information.
In order to create healthy, prosperous communities, we need your
help. Here's some ways that you can participate: buy stuff; fill
out our surveys to give us feedback on the site or e-mail us and
let us know what you liked and didn't like; let us know if you
might be interested in a more long-term role participating in
electronic discussion groups on how we can grow sustainable
communities and develop new, healthy relationships between
producers and consumers. And please, tell your friends and
associates.
****Forward this message now to five people that would like to
help us build healthy regional economies!***
This is a collaborative project of the Center for Civic
Networking, the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks, and
Na'alehu Main Street, supported primarily by the United States
Department of Agriculture Rural Technology Development Program.
The development of the Ohio part of the site is also supported by
the United States Department of Commerce, National
Telecommunications Information Administration, Telecommunications
and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program.
