Eliot -
Thank you for passing the information along about the new ISO working
group focusing on metadata. It has a large and important scope and I'm
grateful to you for being willing to chair it. Also, I would like for
you to be aware of a group that is in the process of forming and making
progress on defining the data and functional model for the enabling of
"networked knowledge organization systems/services (NKOS)", by which we
mean thesauri, classification systems, gazetteers, ontologies, etc. We
had an all day workshop after the ACM Digital Libraries '98 meeting in
Pittsburgh; we have a website
<http://www.alexandria.ucsb.edu/~lhill/nkos/index.html>
where a list of the international participants (30+) and notes from the
workshop (and the previous workshop) can be found. We also have a
listserv to which I am copying this message.
