Virginia, Dan Schneider of DOJ represents the Feds on the DMA. The
white paper that he prepared for the CIO Council's Interoperability
Committee is available at: <http://www.erols.com/ambur/DMA.html>.
It would be well if the CIOs were to recognize the functional
requirements being addressed by the DMA as basic and essential
components of the Governmentwide IT architecture. In my view, there
is nothing more important that they can do. As Richard Noffsinger of
Microsoft has said, "Document management is a true horizontal; it cuts
across all business lines."
I am encouraging the GILS folks, DMA folks, WebDAV folks, librarians,
and records managers all to work together toward a common end, and I am
encouraging my Federal colleagues to be educated consumers in insisting
on nothing less. United we stand; divided we fall.
