Blue Angel Technologies, Inc. Announces New Meta Data Information
Service
GILS Service Targeted at Smaller Government Agencies
VALLEY FORGE, PA (February 19, 1997) - Blue Angel Technologies, Inc.
introduces Thursday a new service designed to help government agencies
comply with the requirement to make information available to the
public over the Internet. The new Blue Angel Government Information
Locator Service (GILS) takes advantage of several new Blue Angel
software products to provide an easy-to-use, inexpensive service for
publishing and maintaining government agency information for public
use.
"Government agencies have a need to make their information available
to the public in GILS format as mandated in law under the Paperwork
Reduction Act, 44 USC 3511 (Title 44, United States Code, section
3511)", said Jim Restivo, president of Blue Angel Technologies.
"Larger agencies typically have the resources and expertise needed to
organize and publish their data on the Internet. But smaller agencies
tend to have difficulty making this happen", Restivo continued. "The
Blue Angel GILS service is geared to those government agencies that
don't have the resources or expertise to effectively comply with the
government's GILS requirements".
GILS is a standard that is being used by government and commercial
entities around the world to define a common structure for
information.
The GILS service is specifically designed so that it can be used
effectively regardless of level of technical proficiency. "For
example", explained Margaret St. Pierre, chief technical officer,
"those customers that are not comfortable working with computers or
the GILS standard can submit information in hard copy form and Blue
Angel Technologies will format, publish and maintain the information
for them. On the other hand, those customers that would like to do so
may publish and maintain their own information over the Internet using
Blue Angel's new software tools".
At the heart of the new GILS service is Blue Angel Technologies Meta
Data Server (MDS) (TM) that is accessed from the Internet through one
of the many popular web browsers like Netscape Navigator(TM) or
Microsoft Explorer(TM). "Customers tend to be comfortable working with
browsers, so we have developed a Java applet that works within the
browser ", continued St. Pierre. "Besides being easy to use, the Java
applet is platform independent which is a necessity when dealing with
government agencies that have such a wide variety of hardware."
Blue Angel Technologies, Inc. is located in Valley Forge,
Pennsylvania. For more information about the new GILS service visit
