Subject: Profile v2 changes in USMARC mappings


Over the past three weeks Rebecca Guenther has pointed out a few changes 
needed in the GILS Profile version 2 within Annex B, GILS Core Element to 
USMARC Mapping. Most of these have already been noted to the GILS list, 
but here is a summary of what I hope are the last set of changes to the 
GILS Profile version 2.

In field 008, Fixed Length Data Elements, the mapping for GILS has been
modified so that it now uses only character positions 00-05 and 07-10. 
The value of these fields is now defined as follows-

     Character positions 00-05: Date the USMARC record was 
     created or converted from a GILS record (formatted as YYMMDD)
     
     Character positions 07-10: Date of Publication (YYYY portion 
     from Date of Publication Structured)

The following USMARC mappings were also changed:

   Originator: 710$a

   Author: 720$a

   Date of publication: 260$c

   Place of publication: 260$a

   Language of resource: 041$a

   Cross reference relationship: 787$g

Subject Terms Uncontrolled is not mapped to a USMARC field; the Uncontrolled
Term subelement is mapped to USMARC subfield 653$a.
