Dear Gils fans: I was happy that Tim's article showed the difference
between a cataloging record and a gils record. Some people give the
impression that we can get along with only a gils record and yet Tim
shows that a gils record leads the user to specific publication
cataloging in catalogs. Some policy makers who want to cut money may
slide over the difference between the two and start cutting the budgets
of those who catalog, like GPO, LC, the National libraries and other
federal libraries. That would be a great disservice to the public.
