Julie's right about this, in my view, which is one reason why we here at
Northwestern do not require a password to access e-reserve. In the CONFU
process we were able to argue successfully for wording in the e-reserve
statement that limiting access need not be done solely by password.
Through the use of the word "structured", (see the dead draft at
http://www.cc.columbia.edu/~rosedale/guidelines.html ) , we are within
guidelines when we allow anyone on campus to see/use Northwestern's
e-reserve if they access the materials by course rather than at an "item
level".

Students curious about a future course they might take should be able to
access the readings for the course, without having to go through hassles.
