Anthony,
This probably isn't the answer you were expecting, but another aspect of
a working solution on this is to use a different printer and/or add more
physical memory to the existing printer. I'm not that familiar with the
creation of Acrobat documents as I don't do it often, but my guess is
you're likely to get more mileage from upgrading the output device as
opposed to fine tuning the performance of Acrobat.
I realize this might not be a feasible solution for you, but more
physical memory and/or a faster print engine do amazing things in terms
of printing large PDF and Postscript documents. When we got a new
HP5siMX here last year, I ordered it with 12 MB of RAM (an addition $200
as I recall, and highly recommended by the sales person). The engine is
20ppm as opposed to the old 12ppm engine we were using which makes a
difference, but going from 2MB of printer RAM to 12MB of printer RAM made
the bigger difference. You can't even open the print monitor on our NT
or MacOS desktops fast enough to see the document go through... This
includes large PDF and Postscript manuals (some into hundreds of pages)
which we routinely print as reference for the entire office (ARL and
CNI) staff.
If you can add even 2MB of RAM to your existing printer, you will see a
big performance difference...
