For those of you who may have missed my last announcement regarding the
above, the ACRL Electronic Reserves Discussion Group will be meeting during
the ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco on Sunday, June 29, 1997 from
8:30 AM to 11:00 AM in the Hotel Nikko, Nikko Ballroom III.
The agenda for this meeting will include vendor demonstrations by Docutek
Information System, Innovative Interfaces, Inc. and Nuosoft, Inc. There
will also be presentations about electronic reserve systems at Marist
College Library, Rochester Institute of Technology and San Diego State
University Library. During this meeting we will also be electing a new
chair and the following are my thoughts about doing this.
I've spoken to some of my colleagues who are discussion group chairs to
find out how they have gone about electing their new officer. (Since no
one has come forward to place her/his name forward for consideration, this
message may prompt someone to do so.) Other discussion groups elect a
chair and a vice chair. The chair is responsible for putting together the
agenda items for the meeting and the vice chair is responsible for
recording and distributing the minutes of the meeting. What makes this
such an agreeable arrangement, is that once a chair and vice-chair are
elected, the body only needs to elect a vice-chair annually since the
vice-chair serves as chair. (So the vice-chair is the chair-in-waiting.)
It provides for a continuity to the body and allows for a corporate memory.
I consider this to be a very attractive option for us and one that will
not overwhelm anyone thinking of placing her/his name in nomination. I
would like to hear from those of you who will be attending the meeting at
Annual regarding this. And if any of you are interested in placing your
name in nomination for chair or vice-chair kindly contact me.
Thanks in advance for your attention to this message.
Sincerely,
Joan A. Reyes
