Or try -

ELECTRONIC RESERVE:

A system providing the full text of assigned or recommended course
readings from legacy printed material in electronic form across a network
to integrate with other networked course material.

This may seem a harsh definition but I don't think services which are
conceived as mechanisms to convert print and other material to a form which
can be network delivered as being the main game. Which is - how do we
deliver educational and learning information across the network and what
part does prexisting print material play in this wider question.

E Reserve with the narrow definitions proposed is assuming that services
such as traditional library reserve have a place to play on the network. I
think it is unlikely that thet will. At best restricting in this way leaves
the library as the provider of a bureau service to convert print material
to electronic form for academics who are redesigning their couse offerings
for electronic delivery as the virtual university takes hold.
