This isn't exactly related to electronic reserves, but thought I'd ask
anyway. Here at Notre Dame we are going to be switching to a one card
I.D. That is, there will be one card issued to students, staff, etc.
for everything. It will be used for the dining halls, dorm keys, copy
machines, everything. Here in the reserve book room we are still using
charge-out machines that take an I.D. card with an embossed name and
SS# and make an imprint on a book or photocopy card. This is how we
know who has what. The University is also in the process of looking
for a new online computer system. Until this new system is in place,
they will not install scanners for us to use in reserve. And when the
new I.D. cards come out, we not only won't be able to use them in out
current machines, but we won't be allowed to hold I.D.'s either. The
question...Is there anyone out there who has been through a similiar
experience, and if so, how did you handle it? I realize we can have
everyone sign name & number for anything they want to use, but this
is time consuming and not always legible. If anyone has any great
ideas or just random thoughts on the subject, please pass them on to
me. Thanks a bunch.
