ACRL 8th National Conference

 	ARL is pleased to announce "Copyright in the Digital Age: A 
Leadership Workshop for Librarians. " This revised workshop is one 
of a series of initiatives to promote copyright awareness within 
North American higher education and research communities. 

Purpose and Overview:
This two-day workshop for directors and librarians in research and 
academic libraries will:

	1)  summarize the impact of national legislative and 
international treaty proposals in the context of a networked, 
educational setting;

	2)  highlight the potential impact of licensing agreements on 
fair use and library exemptions, and;

	3)  contribute to educational efforts to increase copyright 
awareness within the North American higher education and research 
communities. 

The first day will provide an overview of domestic and 
international legislation, with a focus on proposed legislative 
changes and treaty proposals.  The second day will highlight the 
relationship between copyright and licensing  under contract law.  
Campus strategies for establishing copyright policies and 
addressing the emerging digital environment on local campuses will 
be discussed, and the workshop will conclude with participants 
developing a plan to promote copyright understanding on their 
campuses.


Target Audience:
	The workshop is limited to librarians interested in 
increasing their knowledge of copyright in an educational setting.  
Individuals might include those who:

%	contribute to the development of institution-wide copyright 
policies and practices; 

%	negotiate licenses for information resources;

%	apply or interpret the copyright law and related guidelines; 

%	provide outreach and/or other instructional services.

Dates and Times:
	Thursday, April 10,1997;  1:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
		Registration begins at 12:00 noon.
	Friday, April 11, 1997;  9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.



Registration Fee and Process:
	Attendance is limited to 75 participants.  The registration 
fee includes resource materials, meals, and breaks.  Participants 
attending the ACRL  National Conference must register with ACRL.

		ARL/ACRL/ALA members: 	$350
		Nonmember librarians:	$425



Hotel Accommodations:
	Participants should use the Offical Housing Request Form 
provided by ACRL.
