Inaugural ARL/OCLC Strategic Issues Forum for Academic Library Directors
1999 Theme: The Future Roles and Contributions of Academic Libraries
September 24-25, 1999
Keystone, Colorado
The Association of Research Libraries and OCLC are collaborating
to provide a series of annual events specifically structured to bring the
executive leaders of academic libraries together to focus on issues of
strategic importance to academic libraries and to their roles in higher
education.
The inaugural ARL/OCLC Strategic Issues Forum is specially
designed to focus on the future roles and contributions of academic
librarians. A special collection of speakers and facilitators have been
assembled to help participating library directors think expansively,
discuss critically, and strategize deliberately, for their own library
and the academic library community in whole. Issues Include:
o Developing innovative strategies to work with information providers of
all types.
o Engagement in the changing aspect of teaching/learning in higher
education and new or unique roles that libraries can play in the
environment.
o Expansion of the role of the library within the university.
o Connecting the values of libraries.
o Effectively influencing issues of copyright and intellectual property.
o Identifying talent and critical skills needed to move libraries
and information services into a dynamic future.
